Popular WordPress plugin Yoast is launching an upgrade which uses complete application of Schema.org markup.
What makes this a first-of-its-kind update is that it resolves two problems:
- It makes Schema.org implementation easy
- It tidies up the “fragmented mess” created by the majority of Schema executions
Even the very best Schema implementations are refrained from doing effectively, the company states, as they often provide no context to online search engine.
For instance, if a page has five pieces of Schema markup its frequently uncertain to browse engines how they’re associated with each other.
In addition, it’s also unclear to online search engine what the main entity is on the page.
Yoast discusses how the most recent update to its plugin weaves everything together:
” In our application, which we’re releasing today, all of the pieces “sew together”: we form them into a nested structure. Without this nesting, a search engine does not know how all these pieces connect to each other, and what the most essential piece on a page is. Our execution also plainly and clearly specifies the “primary thing” on that page. This eliminates all of the guesswork and adds a great deal of context for online search engine.”
You can see the distinction on your own by running one of Yoast’s example pages through Google’s structured data screening tool.
Here’s a screenshot of what you’ll see in the screening tool:
In this screenshot, you can see that the primary entity of the page is an article. The post becomes part of a website, which becomes part of a site.
Scrolling even more down you’ll see more entities which Google detects as being related to the article, such as images, author, publisher, and more.
The screening tool likewise detects other products related to each entity.
Here’s an example of the author markup which has numerous social media profiles attached to it.
When studying the example page it’s simple to see how the plugin connects everything together.
