How To Setup A Succesful PPC Campaign
I will tell you exactly what settings to select when you are setting up your PPC campaign to get you a lot of one cent clicks from the start. As soon as your ad gets approved you should be sending hundreds of clicks to your site for just a penny per click, and it is cool to be able to say: hey, you know what I spent ten bucks on AdWords, Facebook today and sent a thousand people to my site. It is a fresh feeling.
Contrary to popular opinion Google AdWords can be an awesome source of traffic and a very cheap source of traffic if you know what you are doing. So right up front, there are three things that you need. Don’t worry I am going to take you through this one by one.
The first thing you need are great ads that people really, really, really want to click on, and that is what is going to drive those people back to your website. We need an excellent landing page.
I am going to give you useful tips and will tell you exactly how to set it all up. You need to make sure that you create a campaign in the right way to make sure that you are not spending any more than one penny per click, don’t worry I am going to take you by the hand, I am going to walk you through all three things.
Text ads are located on the top and the right side of Google SERPs.
Text ads might be, really, really expensive because everybody is fighting for those few spots to get on the first page. So that is why it is so expensive to advertise on the search network, and that is what gives Google ad words kind of a bad name.
The display network is the complete opposite.It The display network is all about banner ads, video ads, things like that and these appear on sites all across the internet. All the millions and millions is created every single day. Almost all of these have space of banner ads, and that gives up a really powerful advantage because there are so many ad spaces that Google needs to fill up. There are not enough ads online to do fill the Adsense space. And that makes advertising on the display network extremely inexpensive.
So let me tell you more about the details.
If you have ever Googled anything, you have seen these search network ads. I think there are thirteen spots on any given SERP page.
Everyone is competing just for those thirteen little spots. Think back to high school supply and demand, high school economics, when there is a low supply and high demand, you know that it’s going to be pricey. Everybody is fighting to get on that first page it drives the price way up. Now on the display network, we are talking about banner ads. We are going to be running banner ads, not text ads.
The banner ad design I will tell you about how to get 1 percent click-through rate or higher in every niche that I tested. Just a quick reminder: click-through rate, the ratio of the number of times a user clicks on an online advertisement per number of viewers who view the website that has the advertisement on it.
For example, if one out of 100 people who visit a particular web site click on an ad and are taken to the advertiser’s site, then the CTR of that advertisement is 1/100, or 1%.
Since we already covered how to create banner ads, I wanted to talk a little bit about the pros and cons of Google AdWords. To be perfectly honest with you, AdWords was my first major traffic source. It is the first traffic source that I ever had any real success with. My very first course I ever put out was a course on how to, make money with Google AdWords. But as I have gotten more and more experience in internet marketing and I have uncovered and I have gotten a chance to use some of the other traffic sources in this book, I have realized that compared to the rest of them, Google AdWords can be a kind of a pain regarding some of the things that they will not allow you to do.
It is like back in the school, you would have like one really cool teacher who will let you get away with anything. Google AdWords is like the other teacher that was a real bob buster that would never let you get away with anything at all. Who always remembered to check the homework, would always bust you with pop quizzes and then he would send you in the principal’s office at the end.
There are a lot of reasons why it is fantastic but sometimes it can be more trouble that it is worth and in the beginning of my internet marketing career, I was happy to go through that trouble because I just needed the traffic. Now, not so much; I have started using the other traffic sources in this course more, more and more. But I still want to cover Google AdWords because it might be a perfect fit for what you are doing.
I am trying to give you options here. You might go through this training and see that Google AdWords is perfect for your website and your website is perfect for Google AdWords . If that is the case then by all means go for it. But if you don’t have a website that is perfect for Google AdWords , you might want to start with some of the other sources of traffic first because they are just a lot more you know relaxed about what they will let you do and what they let you advertise and what you can sort of get away with. So with that being said I just want to give you a quick overview of some of the pros and cons of using Google AdWords.
First of all, AdWords is awesome for a lot of reasons and the first reason is that it is the largest and fastest, fastest source of traffic on the internet. It reaches almost seventy percent of people in the English-speaking world and a very, very, very, very significant percentage of people worldwide. So that gives you incredible reach and when you start a campaign on AdWords , the traffic comes up very fast, very fast which is great.
There is no more waiting, you don’t have to wait around for your search engine optimization to kick in, you don’t have to, you don’t have to wait for anything. You set up the campaign and the campaign gets approved, boom you get instant traffic from all the over the place. Second of all, as I said before, we will be advertising on the display network.
A few years ago Google instituted something called quality score and, and you know back in the day Google AdWords was the greatest source of traffic because it was just, it was just chill, I mean literally let you do almost anything but a few years ago they instituted this concept of quality score and what quality score means is that they want content to be relevant. They want it to be relevant to people, they want it to be something people can get excited about and honestly they have just started to, to discriminate against people trying to sell things online.
So they instituted this concept of quality score. Then every website on the internet was given a score from one to ten based on how good Google thought that their, their content was and if you had a, a website with a high quality score, Google would reward you with very, very cheap clicks. Now in theory that sounds great but unfortunately most of the sites you are going to be promoting. Your sales pages, other people’s sales pages, squeeze pages, CPA offers, anything like that that is associated with traditional affiliate marketing generally gets a really, really low quality score so that is bad news. Now the good news is that the display network, the banner advertising network which is where we are advertising, quality score just doesn’t matter there at all so quality score only matters for the search network, not so much for the display network. So we get to dodge that bullet and the third thing is that with Google it is absolutely possible to get clicks for one cent to five cents so you can get very cheap traffic and you can get it very fast.
But unfortunately there are a few reasons why AdWords is not so awesome. As I said before it is the most picky source of traffic in this course with the possible exception of StumbleUpon. Google still has very strict requirements for what they will approve at all and we are going to talk about this more on the next part which is covering how to set up your landing page but you know I got to tell you for the most part, Google is very, very strict about what they let you do. And finally honestly Google ha so much money that they really don’t need you, the vast majority of Google’s advertising money, something like 85% comes from its massive corporate.
So for tiny advertisers like us, who are spending you know ten dollars a day, twenty dollars a day, I mean even if you are you know spending a hundred dollars a day or a thousand dollars a day, they don’t care. They really don’t care, they don’t need your money and from their perspective it easier for them to just lock you out and ban you then it is for them you get even a single complaint about what you are doing even if what you are doing is totally legit. So anyway all that being said, remember this, it is one of the largest corporations in the world, Google can afford to be picky and they can afford to ban anybody that they don’t like.
But the flip side of that coin is that just about all the other traffic sources in this course are hungry for your business and they will let you advertise pretty much anything. They are super cool, it is very easy to get cheap traffic and to get that traffic quickly.
And if it seems like too much of work or if it seems like Google AdWords isn’t going to be a good fit for you, well that is why I included all these other sources of traffic because honestly I don’t want you to be at the mercy of Google. I don’t want you to be at the mercy Facebook, I don’t want you to be at the mercy of anybody. I want your business to be your business.
Just like my business is my business and I control where my traffic comes from and how much I want to spend and who I want to business with. I just don’t think that it is right for people who are doing affiliate marketing like we are or who are selling their own products or whatever it is you are doing, even if you just want to drive traffic to your blog you know you are not selling anything. I just don’t think it is right for us to be at the mercy of some giant corporation who wants to tell us what we can and can’t put on our internet. So just keep in mind, we are going to cover how to do this, but you know you are not trapped in Google’s web. You can do anything that you want and that is why the other traffic sources are covered in this course as well.
My advice, go through the entire traffic source and then just pick the best suits your need. The temptation of going directly to Google AdWords is going to be there. I am glad you want to take action right now, but you know what, there might be a shorter, better path for what you want to do elsewhere in the course, so just go through all traffic sources and take your time, think about all traffic sources and then decide, this is the traffic source that I want to start with and then go from there.
I have gotten tons of emails like that from a lot of people who I have taught this method before so I am excited to be able to give it a shot, but you must follow directions exactly in this PPC section. If you have problems, please check your campaign set up against the included checklist and I am including a checklist for you. Ninety-nine percent of the time if you have a problem is because you missed one of the correct settings.You have got to make sure that you set up your campaign exactly right; I will show you how to do it and I will also give you a check, to make sure that you have got all the right settings. So to sum up here is the three things you need to make a Google campaign work and get one cent clicks.
First of all, you need banner ads in every size that Google allows.
Next, you need your landing page properly set up, and again I am going to walk you through that. A whole process, we should be able to get the whole thing done in about half an hour. Finally, we need to properly configure the campaign, and that only takes just a few clicks so I will tell you how to do it; it should only take about a fifteen minutes. As soon as you have all three of those things in place, you are ready to launch your campaign and get a hundreds (one cent) clicks on Google AdWords so it is going to be cool and I can’t wait to hear about all the success you are going to have with it.
